| Description |
|
Sol y Sombra ("Sun and Shade") is an elegant British colonial villa a few feet from two of the world's most beautiful unspoiled beaches. Sol y Sombra is located on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, home to several of the Caribbean's most exclusive resorts, including Little Dix Bay, Biras Creek and Necker Island. Sol y Sombra is a private villa that meets the standards set by these fine resorts. Virgin Gorda may be reached by air through San Juan or St. Thomas or by water taxi from Tortola. The villa is available by the week or by the month.
WELCOME TO SOL Y SOMBRA
Looking out over Sir Francis Drake Channel, the dramatic views encompass a dozen neighboring islands and cays in a constantly azure sea. The villa has four luxury suites, a heated swimming pool, a lighted tennis court, European gourmet kitchen, private movie theater, exercise pavilion, and over an acre of tropical gardens. Sol y Sombra's vanishing edge swimming pool melts into the Caribbean a few feet from a seaside lawn. The villa borders two spectacular beaches, one a broad expanse of coral sand framed by palm trees and the surf, and the second a sheltered cove protected by Virgin Gorda's uniquely dramatic boulders. Sol y Sombra's guests enjoy the mystery and drama of Virgin Gorda's famous "Baths" on their very own secluded beaches. A living reef beckons just beyond the villa’s lawn. Valley Trunk Bay has over 1,000 feet of unspoiled beach. The villa’s Little Trunk Bay beach extends for approximately 350 feet, protected by its reef and giant boulders. The main pavilion offers a European-style kitchen with stainless steel appliances, Viking Range, Sub-Zero refrigerator and granite counters, an office with facsimile, computer, telephone and internet access, gym, and a formal dining room. At night, the elegant living room is transformed into a private movie theater so that guests may enjoy their own movies with a professional sound system. Sol y Sombra has three beachfront pavilions, all surrounding either the 30-foot vanishing edge swimming pool. All offer spectacular views of the Caribbean and the estate's landscaped gardens. The villa has four separate bedroom suites, each with a private outdoor terrace, bath, air conditioning, television, minirefrigerator and telephone. All suites are furnished with custom-crafted solid teak furniture, cushions and luxury cottons. Hand-assembled native stone, honey-colored French limestone and lavender marble give each suite an elegant, timeless aura. French doors allow each pavilion to open completely to the sea breezes. The tennis pavilion has its own separate living room, terrace, observation deck and master bedroom suite. The lighted private tennis court allows guests to enjoy a game of tennis, at any time of the day, without reservations. And, the tennis court doubles as a basketball court. An exercise room with treadmill, elliptical machine, free weights and a stationary bicycle adjoins the tennis court.
VALLEY TRUNK BAY PAVILION
This master bedroom suite is the closest to the beach, with a private path to Valley Trunk Bay and to Little Trunk Bay. This suite has two private terraces, a stunning shower with ocean vistas, spacious bath with lavender marble vanity, desk alcove, and king British colonial poster bed.
SUGAR MILL PAVILION
The Sugar Mill houses two suites, with separate entrances. The lower suite adjoins the 30-foot long vanishing-edge pool, with an oversized bath and walkin closet and dressing area. Two single beds furnish this suite designed particularly with children or young adults in mind. The upper Sugar Mill suite is a dramatic adult retreat, with one of the most spectacular views in the Caribbean. The outdoor terraces rest on a twostorey boulder, offering a panorama of neighboring islands and cays.
